In this week’s tech tip, we are going to show you how to set up an integration with the instant messaging and collaboration app, Slack. These days, collaboration tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams are indispensable to the distributed workforce. In addition to being an instant messaging system that lets you bypass email, Slack has lots of add-ins for other workplace tools. These include the ability to deliver alerts (with any necessary supporting information) to the right team members, allowing them to quickly assess incidents and troubleshoot them as needed.

Integrating Slack with Catchpoint for More Effective Incident Resolution

Integrating Slack with Catchpoint will allow you to quickly and easily send custom alerts from Catchpoint’s UI directly to the Slack platform. Setting up effective communication is important at all times, but even more so when your Ops teams are working hard to resolve an incident. When systems are acting erratically and user experience is suffering, every second makes a difference. The Catchpoint/Slack integration unifies data sharing during incident response, bringing diagnostic tools into key workflows, effectively streamlining incident resolution processes.

Catchpoint allows you to customize alerts to your organization’s needs, for instance, specifying the severity of the alert, the exact systems affected, and indications as to possible causes for the incident. In this week’s video, I’ll show you how Catchpoint can feed this kind of alert data directly into Slack channels.

I’ll also take you inside a new instance of Slack to show you how to set up a Webhook, which modifies the behavior of a webpage or web application. Once you have the Slack integration set up, you’ll be able to see Catchpoint Alerts appear under the Slack channel you specify.

Integrate your DevOps Tools with Catchpoint

The Webhook integration explained in the video isn’t limited to Slack. You can also use it to integrate other collaboration tools, including Google Docs and Microsoft Teams. Catchpoint’s other out-of-the-box integrations include PagerDuty, OpsGenie, ServiceNow, and VictorOps. In fact, you can push Catchpoint data wherever you need it to go with our easy-to-use APIs. Also, the entire process only took me about ten minutes, starting from when I created a new Slack account.

Over the course of this week’s Tip of the Day, I’m going to:

  • Delve into the concepts of APIs and Webhooks
  • Show you how to configure a new instance of Slack with a Catchpoint Webhook
  • Demonstrate how to filter existing Catchpoint alerts into your Slack channel
  • Share how using the Alert Webhook means that Catchpoint alerts can be sent directly to your chosen communication alerting tools, such as Slack, to consolidate notification times and help reduce mean time to resolve (MTTR).
