Catchpoint named a leader in the 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Digital Experience Monitoring
We're honored to announce that Catchpoint has been named a Leader in the first-ever Gartner® Magic Quadrant for Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM). We believe this recognition reflects the rapid pace of innovation of our Internet Performance Monitoring (IPM) platform.
What is DEM?
Gartner defines DEM tools as “those that measure the availability, performance, and quality of the user experience (human user or digital agent) of critical applications. This can include internal users (employees and contractors), external users (customers and partners) or a digital agent connecting to an API. In addition to performance, DEM technologies enable observability of user behavior and journey based on their interaction with applications.”
Commenting on the importance of DEM, the report states, “The ability to monitor and optimize the end-user experience across digital platforms is a critical aspect of modern IT operations. DEM is becoming an increasingly important part of monitoring as IT organizations seek to improve the digital experience and align with the business.”
Why Catchpoint was included in the Gartner Magic Quadrant
To be included in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, Catchpoint had to meet rigorous market participation and capabilities inclusion criteria:
- Provide generally available capabilities as of 1 August 2024. General availability means the product or service is widely available to all customers for purchase through normal sales channels.
- Sell the DEM tool directly to paying customers without requiring them to engage professional services help.
- Demonstrate an active product roadmap, go-to-market and selling strategy for their DEM solution.
- Have phone, email and/or web customer support.
We also had to meet Gartner capabilities inclusion criteria, such as “The DEM tool must offer all must-have capabilities, and three of the five standard capabilities described in Gartner’s market definition.”
To put that into context, here are the must-have capabilities for the DEM market, according to Gartner:
- The ability to measure the health and performance of applications, network and infrastructure from a user point of view.
- Real user monitoring (RUM) — record the interactions of real users within a web application
- Synthetic transaction monitoring (STM) — simulated user interaction through scripts, bots, network traffic simulation or API tests
We believe these capabilities are essential to ensure a comprehensive understanding of both employee and customer experiences across networks and applications. We are delighted not only to have met Gartner criteria for inclusion in the Magic Quadrant, but also have been named a Leader.
What makes a Leader?
In their quadrant descriptions, Gartner states, “Leaders exhibit strong execution and vision scores and exemplify the functionality required for IT organizations to continuously evaluate and improve DEM. Leaders have the broadest set of capabilities, strongest roadmaps, a larger installed base, and cover the most geographic regions and industries.”

A milestone for Catchpoint
Over the last 16 years, we’ve been fortunate to get some great recognition from industry analysts – from Forrester to IDC to GigaOM. Just last year, we were honored to be recognized in six Gartner Hype Cycle 2023 Reports in respective categories. At the time, we hailed our inclusion in the reports as a sign of the quick adoption of IPM as an emerging technology that is becoming more essential for more use cases every day.
Fast-forward a year, and having Gartner recognize IPM as a category in their first-ever market vendor valuation for DEM companies is, to us, a huge acknowledgement for Catchpoint. This is a category that didn’t exist two years ago. We championed it from the rooftops, emphasizing the importance to monitor what matters from where it matters. We brought the industry's attention to the need to monitor not just applications or the network but the entire Internet Stack.
We released cutting-edge tools like Internet Sonar, which enables you to view vital Internet health information at a glance, and Internet Stack Map, which provides a live view of your digital service and its health in the Internet Stack. Zeroing in on the Internet as the main enterprise network, we have been laser-focused on helping our users find and fix Internet Stack issues before their customers are impacted.
Gartner acknowledges that a broad observability platform may not necessarily fit the needs of companies looking to understand application performance. The report states, “For many organizations looking to understand application performance, a broad observability platform may not fit their needs, budget or skill set, and DEM can provide critical insight while meeting these constraints.”
Our decision 16 years ago to focus solely on the Internet as the main conduit for digital traffic has clearly resonated with both the DEM industry and our customers. We believe being named a Leader by Gartner validates our ongoing efforts to champion Internet Resilience.
